My search engine rankings are high so why am I not getting more business?
It is not uncommon for a business to have high search engine rankings but not have it translate into more business. There can be many causes for this. The most common issue is the keywords that are chosen. You could have high rankings on keyword searches but if nobody is searching those keywords, your website will stay as buried as it would without any optimization.
It is important to research which search terms are being used to determine which keywords to concentrate on. You have to always remember that it is not how you would search for something as much as how someone else would. If you use a bunch of techical jargon or acronyms that only someone in your industry would know, you will probably get good rankings but no one will search those terms. You only want to use these keywords if your industry is so specific that the only people searching would know the exact terminology.
There are multiple tools available that can help you get a better understanding of what people are searching. They can help you target your keywords to the appropriate markets.
Another common problem is that people are finding your website but they don't like what they see or become confused. Once someone actually makes it to your website, they have to like what they see because if they don't, they will click off and go to a competitor's website. This is where the design and content of the website is critical. If your website takes a long time to load because it is full of animation and other bells and whistles, you risk the potential of a searcher leaving your site. If your navigation is confusing or the content is inadequate, you risk the same problem. These are website design issues that should be addressed.
