Website Optimization Long Beach -- Frequently Asked Questions

Keyword Research Long Beach -- Why are Keywords important?

Keywords are used when a person does a search on Google, Yahoo, Bing any of the other major search engines.  They are words or strings of words people type into a seach engine bar to find what they are looking for.  The interesting thing about keywords is that if ten people are looking for the same thing, they might all use different keyword strings to find what they need.  Something as simple as adding an s to the end of a keyword string can affect your rankings. It is very important to invest the time and do the proper research for what terms are being searched the most. It is also important to stay away from industry jargon unless you know without a doubt that people search for your products or services would know the terminology. You always have to remember that it is not about how you would search, but how others will search.  When you are determining your keywords, keep this in mind.

  • Choose keywords that are specific.  You want to stay away from single keywords because they usually end up being broad.
  • Use variations of your keywords.  Make your phrases singular and plural.
  • Use your interior pages to target more specific keywords.
  • Don’t use words such as the, on and in when determining your keywords.  These are known as stop words and they are considered irrelevant.  Make note that when you are using keywords for content purposes, you want to make sure you have those words in the text.   Otherwise it will not read well.
  • Choose the most useful keywords.  A common mistake is loading up on every possible keyword.  Choose keywords that will give you the highest possibility for success.
There once was a time when keywords were the main function of getting noticed on the search engines. While you will not achieve top rankings with just keywords, they still serve a valuable function because the tell the search engines what each page pertains to. Choose your keywords wisely and when possible, target specifically.
