Los Angeles Web Marketing -- Frequently Asked Questions

Web Optimization Services Long Beach -- What are Meta Tags used for?

Meta tags are the data in the code of a website used to describe your website when it is being crawled by the search engines.  There are three types of tags, title, keywords and description. The title tags will show up in the top left corner of your web browser. Title tags tell the search engines what your web page pertains to. Meta descriptions are a brief synopsys of the particular web page. They are also used by search engines to determine the content of the web page and many times are included in the ranking descriptions. Keywords are strings of words or phrases that people use when they search online. Keywords also help web crawlers better understand what your site is about.

While it is important to have keywords in the meta title tags, description and keywords, it does not have the impact on search engine rankings that it once did. However it is an important component and should not be ignored. In your title tags, choose the strongest keywords possible.  Many times businesses will put the name of their company first.  While it is fine to put your company name in the title tag, you don’t necessarily want it to be the first item there.

Put the strongest keywords for each particular page in the title tags. You want to use keywords that people search for and if they have not familiar with your business, they won't search for that term.  In the keyword description, put strong keywords in place.  You want to refrain from filling the space with every keyword on the planet.  In the description, you want to describe the business in a sentence format.  This is not an area to load up with more keywords.
